The Israel Parkinson Association will host a conference for Parkinson victims and their spouses to mark International Parkinson Day in Israel.

Monday, May 5 THE JERUSALEM Center for Ethics will host a conference on The Limits of the Autonomy of a Patient. The conference, which begins at 3.30 p.m., will take place at Mishkenot Sha'ananim in Jerusalem and will deal with legal and moral issues. THE ISRAEL Parkinson Association (IPA) will host a conference for Parkinson victims and their spouses to mark International Parkinson Day in Israel. There are some 20,000 people in Israel who have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, but only 1,300 are members of the IPA, whose executive believes that more people could be helped to cope better if they joined. Tuesday, May 6 THE LAUDER School of Government at the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya will be hosting a special roundtable entitled "The Energy Challenges of the 21st Century." The panel, which will convene at 11:30 am on the IDC Herzliya campus, consists of top energy experts from Israel and the United States, including: Dr. Amit Mor, CEO Eco Energy, lecturer at the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy, IDC Herzliya; Dr. Carl O. Bauer, director of the National Energy Technology Laboratory, US Department of Energy; Dr. Robert Dixon, head of the International Energy Agency's Energy Technology Policy Division; Dr. Gerry Groenewold, director of the University of North Dakota's Energy and Environmental Research Center; Dr. Isaac Berzin, senior fellow at the IDC Herzliya Program in Applied Decision Analysis; Dr. Eitan Yudilevich, executive director of the BIRD Foundation; and Prof. Alex Mintz, dean of the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy, IDC Herzliya. The roundtable will be followed be a signing ceremony establishing a joint cooperation agreement between the Lauder School of Government and the US Department of Energy's National Energy Technology Laboratory. AHEAD OF Israel's 60th Independence Day, the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism (ICT) at the Interdisciplinary Center, Herzliya, in cooperation with the Remembering Organization, will conduct a symposium on the subject of "Bereavement, Terrorism and Decision Making in Israel." The event will take place on the eve of Remembrance Day from 2-5.p.m at the Jerusalem International Convention Center. There will be two panels, the first on Terrorism, Law and Public Policy: Mutual Ramifications; and the second on Between Recovery and Coverage: Culture, Media and Terrorism. Participants will include public figures, academics and journalists. The discussion, in Hebrew, with simultaneous translation into English, will be led by Lt.-Gen. (res.) Orit Adatto, a board member of the Council for Peace and Security and an ICT associate. Sunday, May 11 THE FIVE-Day International Writers Festival will open at Mishkenot Sha'ananim, Jerusalem, and will bring together writers and their illustrators and translators. The event will include walking tours in the footsteps of writers or their novels, movies of novels and short stories, performances based on poems and other forms of creative stimulation.
