  • Major-General (ret.) Amos Gilad, head of the political-military bureau at the Ministry of Defense, will address the Jerusalem Chamber of Commerce on "The rise of the Hamas in the PA elections, and its implications for the region." The chamber will convene at 6:30 p.m. at the Inbal hotel, Jerusalem.   • Prof. Ephraim Inbar, director of the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies at Bar-Ilan University, will present a lecture under the auspices of Root and Branch on "Iran's Nuclear Program." The lecture will be at 7 p.m. at the Seymour Abrams Orthodox Union Jerusalem World Center, Rehov Keren Hayesod 22, Jerusalem.   • A Hebrew lecture on "Life in Distant Worlds" by Dr. Amri Wandel of The Hebrew University will be delivered at 6 p.m., in the Canada Hall of the university's Edmond J. Safra Campus, Givat Ram. This is one of a series of public lectures on space and astronomy under the auspices of the Authority for Community and Youth of The Hebrew University.   • "The Garden of Eden and the Genome," a lecture in Hebrew by Prof. Michal Linial, Institute for Life Sciences, The Hebrew University, will be delivered at 5 p.m. in the Wise Auditorium at the university's Edmond J.   • Two lectures in English within the framework of a colloquium on "Feminine Protagonism in the History of Latin America and Spain" will be delivered by Karin Alejandra Rosenblatt of Syracuse University, US and Jessica Stites-Mor of Yale, in Room 495 of the Gilman Building, Tel Aviv University at 11:30 a.m. Rosenblatt will speak on "Women Professionals and Feminism in Popular-Front Chile" while Stites-Mor will discuss "The Critical Role of Feminist Film Making in the Reconstruction of Argentina's Democracy."
  • The sixth Go4Europe conference will be held at the Hilton Hotel, Tel Aviv, with the participation of acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, France's Minister of State and Interior Nicolas Sarkozy, and Tibor Szanyl, Political State Secretary Hungarian Ministry of Economy and Transport.   • Auschwitz Memorial Day, or Holocaust day as it is now called, will be marked by the Society of Danes in Israel, the Society of Norwegian Immigrants in Israel and Sweden Israel Friendship League with a lecture by Prof. Dina Porat, director of The Stephen Roth Institute for the Study of Anti-Semitism and Racism at Tel Aviv University. Prof. Porat will talk about International Holocaust Day and other Holocaust memorial days in general. Israel's former ambassador to Norway, Liora Herzl, will discuss modern Anti-Semitisim and Anti-Zionism from the perspective of an ambassador in Scandinavia. The event, which includes the 20th annual awarding of the Raoul Wallenberg Prize at Tel Aviv University, will be chaired by MK Rabbi Michael Melchior.   • Internet addiction will be one of the subjects discussed at the third conference on the Psychological Effects of the Internet, to be held at 9 a.m. in Room 201 of the Naftali Building at Tel Aviv University. Friday, February 24
  • Prof. Asher Susser, director of the Moshe Dayan Center of Middle East Studies at Tel Aviv Unmiversity, will address the Israeli Friends of Tel Aviv University on "The Arab State: Religion Reform and Democracy."   • An international two-day conference on Globalization 2006 will take place at Ben Gurion University of the Negev, with the focus on "The Changing Structure of World Trade and Investment, and its Impact on Poverty and Income Equality."
