GREEN CIVIL Engineering is the focus of a conference to be hosted at the Beersheba campus of the Sammy Shamoun Academy for Engineering. A number of different projects within the scope of green civil engineering will be presented. Sessions will deal with green architecture and construction, water preservation, land conservation, renewable energies and green transportation. THE ARAB Feminist organization Kayan will hold a lecture on sexual harassment prevention laws in the Shibli-Umm Al-Ghanam Local Council. This will be the organization's second lecture at the council and is for all council employees, men and women alike. The lecture will aim to raise awareness of sexual harassment and its prevention, as well as to inform the women in the group of their rights in sexual harassment cases. Kayan monitors Local Councils, ensuring they meet the law's requirement of appointing a woman to oversee sexual harassment issues. It has also approached the Industry, Trade and Labor Ministry, the Authority for the Advancement of the Status of Women and the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission, demanding that they expand enforcement of this law in Arab local councils. ETHICS IN the State Prosecutors Department is the subject of the upcoming meeting in the series on Ethics in Government Institutions sponsored by the Jerusalem Center for Ethics. Participants include Supreme Court Justice Edna Arbel and State Attorney Moshe Lador. The event will be held at the JCE in Mishkenot Sha'ananim at 5 p.m.
HARNESSING BIOENERGY is the subject of a symposium to be held at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Use of plants of various kinds to produce biofuels is a topic of ever-increasing importance in the world as a means to combat an energy crisis and to deal with increasing concern over atmospheric pollution from the use of fossil fuels. Scientists are involved in advanced research aimed at discovering and developing the most practical and cost-efficient plants for cultivation and conversion into fuels.
Addressing the opening session at 9:30 a.m. on will be Avraham Arbib, deputy chief scientist and director of the division of research and development at the National Infrastructures Ministry. WEALTH MANAGEMENT for Peace, a conference organized by Fortress Capital Management to discuss investment opportunities in the Israeli and Palestinian economies, is the focus of the STEP Jerusalem Welfare Conference. It will focus on many of the issues faced by anyone wishing to invest in the Israeli and Palestinian economies.
The conference is at the David Citadel Hotel in Jerusalem. THE 2009 Knesset Elections: Political and International Implications will headline a special Ambassador's Forum at Bar-Ilan University, to be hosted by the Department of External Relations.
