Back in the US I've been home in the US for about one month now. It was wonderful to see my family and friends and to visit favorite hotspots like New York City and Philadelphia. I wasn't so keen on returning to New Jersey, though. I'm a city girl and returning home to boring routine of living in suburbia was not something I was looking forward to. I live at home. I don't have a cell phone. I don't have a job. I do have a life, but completely different from what it used to be in Israel. Yes, I am more comfortable and more confident here-but am I that much happier? I'm not so sure yet. Things have certainly changed since I left. A few friends got married. A few friends got engaged. And many moved away after college and came back full-fledged adults. I, too, became a full-fledged adult. When I came back, I felt I was more mature and more independent. I knew I could only depend on myself and no one else. Though friends went out of their way to welcome me home when I returned, I don't get to see everybody the way I used to and that hurts. But this is the choice I made when I decided to leave everyone and everything behind for one year somewhere else. It's not like we didn't keep in contact, we did send emails and make phone calls, but had I had the chance to do it over again I think I would keep in contact with people more.
