When it’s so hot, the soul and body yearn for light, cool, fruity and fun wines. Not the ones in which depth and complexity are discussed; more the kind you can sip cold and in abundance, when the forehead is sweating and the soul has long been weary, and not just because of the weather.

The vineyards of Fattoria Il Muro of the Pancaro family have been active in the Tuscany region, near Arezzo, for over two hundred years. In the early seventies Francesco Pancaro upgraded the vineyards to specialize in wine growing, and today the winery is managed by his son Federico. About 300 dunams of the estate are dedicated to growing wine grapes.

In the current sip, four wines – three whites and one rosé – unpretentious, inexpensive, very charming and as suitable as can be for summer drinking. Their emphases vary and they include both old and new. The most impressive and precise of the four is the “Verdone,” based on Vermentino, and alongside it “Lama,” based on Chardonnay, “Sassone” – a blend of Trebbiano, Malvasia and Vermentino – and the rosé “Vino Elvira” definitely deliver the goods. These are inexpensive wines – NIS 55 to NIS 69 – and they are certainly worthy of drinking in these insane days. Cheers!
