Ben-Yosef Livnat officially recognized as terror victim

National Insurance Institute to enable family to receive compensation from state after IDF probe into Joseph's Tomb shooting.

Over a month after he was killed by Palestinian Authority policemen while sneaking into Nablus, Ben- Yosef Livnat was officially recognized on Thursday by the Defense Ministry as the victim of a terrorist attack.
The decision was passed onto the National Insurance Institute, and will enable his family to receive compensation from the state.

The decision was based on the IDF’s probe into the April shooting.
Livnat, 25, was fatally wounded by a PA policeman who shot at a group of Breslav hassidim on their way to prayer at Joseph’s Tomb, on the outskirts of Nablus. Four other worshipers were wounded.
The group entered Nablus without coordinating the visit with the IDF, as stipulated by law. Nablus is in Area A, territory under full PA control, and therefore off limits to Israeli Jews.
The four policemen were immediately placed under arrest by the PA, which is continuing to investigate the shooting, but has already determined that it was in violation of regulations.
The IDF has also reportedly determined that the Palestinian policemen were not provoked, nor in danger, and therefore did not have reason to open fire at the group, even though they were in violation of the law.
The IDF has still not defined the shooting as a terrorist attack, and the decision to recognize Livnat, the nephew of Likud Minister Limor Livnat, as a terror victim came after his family submitted an official request to the NII, which then consulted with the Defense Ministry.
