Switzerland confirmed its first case of swine flu Thursday - a 19-year-old student who health officials said was mistakenly released from a hospital and then hastily readmitted.
The National Influenza Center in Geneva confirmed the disease after the student - who returned from vacation in Mexico - was released Wednesday after two days of isolation in a hospital in the northern city of Baden.
It was Switzerland's second swine flu mishap this week after a container with swine flu samples burst on a train Monday.
Juerg Beer, the Baden hospital's chief doctor, said authorities decided to release the patient after initial tests were inconclusive. The student was then called back to the hospital when a second, better test showed conclusively that he was infected.
"The patient is well, but he is a bit angry," Beer told reporters.
