Histadrut chief speaks out on doctor dispute for first time

Eini: They can't just meet once a week; two sides must get together, conduct serious negotiations until solutions are reached.

Histadrut labor federation chairman Ofer Eini, in his first comments regarding the twomonth long doctor’s dispute‚ said Tuesday that he opposed the Treasury’s threat to seek restraining orders against the Israel Medical Association to prevent further industrial action.
Ilan Levin, the chief wage official, said Monday that if the doctors did not retract their plans on July 1 to “work by the book,” he would have no alternative but to go to the labor court.

Eini, who was speaking at an assembly organized in Jerusalem by Levin, said the two sides have got to get together and negotiate seriously until they find solutions.
They can no longer “meet once a week and spend the rest of the time badmouthing each other in the press,” Eini said.
Sanctions will be carried out again on Wednesday in the center of the country. The affected hospitals will be Sheba, Tel Aviv Sourasky, both the Beilinson and Hasharon Campuses of the Rabin Medical Center, Schneider, Wolfson, Assaf Harofeh, Meir, Shalvata, Geha, Beit Rivka, Beit Loewenstein, Pardesia, Netanya’s geriatric hospital and Abarbanel.
On Thursday, only oncological surgery and other urgent operations will be performed in all the hospitals. Other hospital activities will continue.
