More than 1,000 people have been diagnosed with the measles, the Health Ministry announced on Sunday, as officials cautioned people to take efforts to combat the disease.
A teacher in Ashdod was reported as infectious on Sunday, prompting the school to recommend a second dose of measles vaccines to pupils. The Health Ministry will vaccinate residents in Jerusalem, Beit Shemesh and Betar Illit as a result in the uptick of measles cases.
The ministry said on Sunday that 1,334 measles patients were diagnosed across the country. Sixty-five to roughly 100 of these patients were given the first round of vaccination and still got sick, the ministry said.
In the upcoming weeks, intense vaccination efforts will be offered in the three cities to serve those who have not yet been inoculated. Ambulances will tour neighborhoods to offer vaccines to residents.
Unvaccinated people will not be allowed to enter various hospital sections and may possibly be barred from schools.
Last week, an 18-month old baby in Jerusalem succumbed to the measles, prompting a renewed fear of the disease.
