Due to hazy and polluted air conditions in Israel on Monday, The Ministry of Environmental Protection warned people suffering from heart or lung conditions, the old, children and pregnant women not to engage in strenuous activity. The polluted air was a result of a low pressure system over the Mediterranean Sea which caused sandstorms and flying dust from Egypt to move into Israel.Visibility in most of the country was reduced and fell below fifty kilometers in most parts of the country. The Airports Authority decided to close Sde Dov Airport in Tel Aviv, Israel Radio reported. Arkia Airlines operated its domestic flights from Ben Gurion Airport and was shuttling its passengers there by bus.The traffic division of Israel's Police suggested that due to the haze drivers should keep their headlights on during the day.The Israel Meteorological Service reported Monday that conditions would continue to be hotter and drier than average in most areas of the country. In the afternoon colder and more humid air will cause a drop in temperatures and winds will become stronger.
