15,000 Americans evacuated from Lebanon

After 18 days, 15,000 Americans stranded in Lebanon have been evacuated by way of Turkey and Cyprus, and major efforts to move Americans out have ended, the State Department said. "Assistance to those Americans who remain in Lebanon will now be provided as circumstances permit," the department said in a statement Wednesday night. The US government began evacuating Americans from Lebanon on July 16, four days after Hizbullah initiated the war with Israel.
