Bahrain's lower criminal court imprisoned two young locals Wednesday having convicted them for possession of materials that could "damage the public interest," according to the New York-based Human Rights Watch.
Mohamed Saeed al-Sahlawi, a dentist, received a one-year prison sentence. Husain Abdulaziz al-Hibshi, who works for an insurance company, received a six-month prison-term at the crowded court in the Bahrani capital, Manama.
Family members in court angrily received the verdict, an eyewitness said. The pair have been detained since November 16 for possessing leaflets calling for the boycott of the last election, the Human Rights Watch statement said.
