2 Jordanian UN soldiers shot to death in Haiti

Two Jordanian soldiers with the United Nations peacekeeping force in Haiti were killed in an ambush Saturday, according to the government's official spokesman Nasser Judeh. "One of the Jordanian battalions working with the UN peacekeeping force in Haiti came under fire by unknown gunmen as the soldiers returned from their duty in the Sonabi area," Petra news agency quoted Judeh as saying. Judeh said that despite the incident, "Jordan asserts that it will continue to perform its humanitarian role and duty in the establishment of world peace and security". The latest fatalities involving an officer and a driver, bring to four the number of Jordanian soldiers killed in Haiti this year. Jordan contributes thousands of soldiers to the UN peacekeeping force in several hotspots across the globe.
