5 killed in roadside blast in eastern Afghanistan

A roadside bomb hit a police vehicle in eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday, killing five people, including police officers, a provincial police chief said. The blast happened in the eastern Khost province close to the border with Pakistan, said police chief Gen. Mohammad Ayub. He could not say how many of the people killed were policemen and how many were civilians. Ayub blamed the attack on Taliban militants, who regularly target Afghan and foreign troops in the area.
