Austria: Deadline extended for release of 2 hostages in n. Africa

Austria's Foreign Ministry says a deadline for releasing two Austrian tourists taken hostage in Tunisia has been extended. Ministry spokesman Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal says Austria was in the possession of a message "giving us more time for efforts to free Wolfgang Ebner and Andrea Kloiber." The spokesman did not specify where the message had come from or say if a new deadline was set. A group called al-Qaida in Islamic North Africa had given an initial deadline of Sunday midnight. It said it would free the two Austrians if certain of its members were released from jails in Tunisia and Algeria.
