British serviceman killed in battle with Taliban

A British serviceman was killed and another was wounded during fighting Tuesday in Afghanistan's southern Helmand province, the Ministry of Defense said. The Royal Marines were involved in an operation to dislodge Taliban forces, which the ministry said were responsible for attacks on the town of Garmser. "During the operation, two Royal Marines were injured, one of whom later died of his wounds," the spokeswoman said, on condition of anonymity in line with government policy. "They were both airlifted to the (British) military hospital in Camp Bastion. The second Royal Marine has undergone surgery and is in a stable condition," she said.
