Egyptians shoot at three African migrants near Egypt-Israel border

An Egyptian hospital official said border guards shot and injured three African migrants trying to cross illegally into Israel on Sunday. Imad Kharboush, head of the Northern Sinai ambulance department, said two migrants from Sudan and one from Ivory Coast ignored warning shots and continued towards a barbed wire barrier south of the border crossing of Rafah. He added that their injuries are not serious. Hundreds of Africans seeking political asylum and jobs try to cross from Egypt into Israel every year. Amnesty International urged the Egyptian government to end the use of lethal force against migrants and said in a report published in August that at least 19 Africans had been fatally shot this year. Two more were killed last week.
