EU accepts compromise proposal on global warming at UN conference

The European Union said Saturday it supported a compromise proposal on upcoming negotiations for a new global warming pact, bringing contentious talks nearer to resolution. Humberto Rosa, a Portuguese environment official representing the EU, told delegates that the compromise had been brokered in a "good cooperative atmosphere." Complete agreement, however, was stalled by objections by India and China to parts of the text, and the conference session with all delegates was briefly suspended.
