A longtime friend and associate of Yves Saint Laurent said that the famed couturier died Sunday at his Paris home at the age of 71.
Pierre Berge said Saint Laurent died following a long illness. He did not give details.
The innovative designer has been an institution for decades in the world of high fashion.
He was widely considered the last of a generation that included Christian Dior and Coco Chanel and made Paris the fashion capital of the world.
