Airports in India were on a state of high alert Thursday after intelligence reports warned of a possible suicide bombing or hijacking, news reports said.
The Home Ministry issued a general alert late Wednesday, singling out the Bombay airport and calling for stepped up security, the Press Trust of India news agency said.
A Home Ministry spokesman was not immediately available for comment.
Press Trust of India said the alert was issued following an intelligence intercept suggesting that militants might carry out a suicide attack or hijack a plane.
Extra barricades were set up and patrols increased at airports across the country, the agency reported.
