Indian-Kashmir bus accident kills 13, injures 7

A minibus fell off a mountainous highway in the Indian portion of Kashmir on Saturday, killing 13 passengers and critically injuring another seven, police said. The minibus plunged nearly 150 meters into a stream near Magar Kote, a village 165 kilometers south of Srinagar, the capital of India's Jammu-Kashmir state, said Basant Kumar Rath, the superintendent of police. All the seven injured, including the driver, have been hospitalized, said Rath. Fayaz Ahmed, an eyewitness, said the bus was negotiating a curve on the highway when the accident occurred. Road accidents caused by reckless driving, aging vehicles and bad roads are common in India.
