Indonesia presses Hamas on Quartet demands

Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation, is working to convince Hamas to moderate its opposition to the Quartet demands that the group recognize Israel, stop terrorism, and abide by existing agreements. According to the London-based pan-Arabic daily Al-Hayat, Indonesian Foreign Minister Nur Hassan Wirajuda is expected to meet next week in Damascus with Hamas leader-in-exile Khaled Mashaal. Indonesia is scheduled to host an international conference on the Palestinian crisis in March, which representatives of Hamas are expected to attend.
