Indonesia willing to send peacekeepers to Iraq

Indonesia would be willing to send peacekeepers to Iraq, the foreign minister said Wednesday, and could encourage other Muslim countries to do the same. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono told visiting US President George W. Bush this week that any long-term solution in Iraq should include the involvement of other countries. Asked Wednesday if that could mean sending Indonesian troops to Iraq to take part in future peacekeeping missions, Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda said: "If we have that opportunity, why not?" Indonesia also would be willing to try to convince other Muslim nations to follow suit, he said.
