Iranians mark 'Day of Fighting the Global Arrogance'

Protestors gather outside former US embassy in Tehran to celebrate 33rd anniversary of the Iranian hostage crisis.

Thousands of Iranians protested outside of the former US embassy in Tehran on Friday, marking the country's annual “Day of Fighting the Global Arrogance,” The New York Times reported.
The yearly celebration coincides with the anniversary of the November 4, 1979 Iranian hostage crisis, in which 52 American diplomats were held captive in the US embassy for 444 days, causing the breakdown in diplomatic relations between Washington and Tehran that continues 33 years later.
The Times reported that youth gathered outside the former US mission held up models of missiles, labelled “Made in Iran,” while a senior Iranian security official warned against compromising with the “great Satan.”
AFP reported that demonstrators also chanted anti-Israeli slogans and burnt Israeli flags.

“Today we commemorate the conquering of the castle of Satan!” the Times quoted Mohammad Reza Naghdi, the commander of an Iranian paramilitary group, as telling the crowd.
“In [previous] days, the US could change governments with one phone call,” Naghdi added. “But we took their embassy, and today we witness the fallen and miserable America in front of Iran.”
Last month, the Times, citing Obama administration officials, reported that the US and Iran had agreed for the first time to hold one-on-one negotiations on the Islamic Republic's nuclear program some time after the November 6 US presidential election.
Both the White House and Iran denied the report, whereas Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said he had no knowledge of any such agreement.
