James Baker: US should negotiate with Syria

Former US Secretary of State James Baker said that Hamas was likely to recognize Israel if the US administration would commence negotiations with Syria, Army Radio reported overnight Wednesday. Baker said this would be "a huge step in the right direction," adding that a further possible outcome would be that Syria might stop arming the Hizbullah terror organization. Baker led the Iraq Study Group recently and was secretary of state during George Bush Sr.'s administration and during the Gulf War of 1991.
