Japanese man wounded in Pakistan kidnap attempt

A Japanese journalist was wounded Friday in a kidnap attempt in northwestern Pakistan, police said. Officer Mohammad Khan said a local translator traveling with the man also was wounded in the attack in the regional capital, Peshawar. Khan said the journalist was shot in the leg and was in stable condition. He said the Pakistani man had been hospitalized, but it was unclear how seriously wounded he was. Gunmen abducted an Iranian diplomat in Peshawar on Thursday, a day after an American aid worker was ambushed and killed in the city.
