A final batch of Malaysian peacekeepers left for Lebanon Monday, more than two months after they were initially scheduled to depart as part of a United Nations force.
More than 250 Malaysian troops left for southern Lebanon Monday as part of a 360-strong mission force. An advance team arrived earlier this month to serve in the Marjayoun district.
Malaysia has offered as many as 1,000 troops to help implement UN Security Council resolution 1701, which halted 34 days of fighting between Israel and Hizbullah on Aug. 14.
The troops were initially scheduled to depart Nov. 5, 2006, and the delays were never really explained. The last batch of peacekeepers were seen off by Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Najib Razak.
