Mosque worker killed in Russia's Ingushetia region

Assailants fatally shot an elderly mosque employee Sunday in the latest deadly violence in Russia's Ingushetia region, police said. The 70-year-old assistant of the local mufti was shot after two attackers entered the grounds of the mosque in the village of Malgobek early in the morning, the regional Interior Ministry said. The suspects fled and the motive was not known, police said. In another Ingush village, Karabulak, police said two men firebombed a store selling liquor - an attack the Interior Ministry said may have been meant to enforce the assailants' perception of Muslim religious law. Some observers say such attacks are often the result of turf wars between rival businesses.
