Myanmar's FM: Cyclone death toll could reach 10,000; UN prepares aid

Diplomats said Monday that Myanmar's foreign minister acknowledged the death toll of the devastating cyclone in that country could rise to 10,000. Also Monday, UN and private aid agencies that they are rushing to prepare assistance for victims. Relief agency representatives have been meeting in Yangon, Myanmar, as well in Bangkok, Thailand, and Geneva to assess the damage and prepare supplies. UN agencies are working with the Red Cross and other organizations to see how it can help those affected by the cyclone. The UN children's agency alone has five teams assessing the situation in the country, said UNICEF spokeswoman Veronique Taveau.
