Peru: Defense says no proof against former president Fujimori

Alberto Fujimori's lead attorney said Monday in closing arguments that the prosecution and Peru's news media have condemned the former president as guilty, but lack evidence tying him to two massacres by a military death squad in the early 1990s.
Prosecutors have presented only "narratives and tales" in support of the kidnapping and murder charges, Cesar Nakazaki argued.
Fujimori is on trial for allegedly authorizing the death-squad killings of nine university students and a professor in 1992, and another 15 people including an 8-year-old boy at a barbecue the previous year.
He also is charged with ordering the kidnapping of a prominent journalist and a businessman who were interrogated and released.
