Poland's prime minister canceled a visit to Kuwait and Qatar after his plane was denied entry into Iraqi airspace for security reasons, the government press office said Saturday.
Jaroslaw Kaczynski's plan, which had left Warsaw with a three-hour delay, was turned back to Ankara, Turkey, after an Iraqi air traffic controller denied it entry into Iraq's airspace, said Andrzej Sadom, an aide to Kaczynski.
"For security reasons the flight was turned back and a new date for the visit will be established through diplomatic channels," said government spokesman Jan Dziedziczak, adding the reason for the denial will be investigated.
Kaczynski was headed for talks on shipbuilding - one of Poland's strengths - and energy, as the nation is seeking new sources of gas and oil to wean itself off from dependence on Russia.
