Pope Benedict XVI on Monday called for dialogue and gestures of reconciliation among Jews, Muslims and Christians as a way to help the cause of peace in the Middle East.
"I reiterate my unfailing hope and prayer for peace in the Holy Land," the pope told a delegation from the Jewish organization B'nai B'rith International during an audience at the Vatican.
"Peace can only come about if it is the concern of Jews, Christians and Muslims alike, expressed in genuine inter-religious dialogue and concrete gestures of reconciliation," the pontiff said.
Benedict has been leading a campaign for better relations among Christians, Muslims and Jews, and emphasizing that various faiths can work together on such issues as fighting abortion.
