Quake in New Zealand; no reported injuries, damage

A magnitude 4.8 earthquake shook a region of New Zealand's South Island Friday and was felt in the capital Wellington. No damage or injuries were reported. The temblor, the latest of a swarm to hit the Marlborough region at the South Island's northern tip, was centered 60 kilometers south of Wellington at a depth of 15 kilometers underground. It was the most recent of 10 minor quakes to hit the region since the previous 4.8 magnitude temblor on Tuesday, New Zealand's Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences reported.
