Report: Abbas to visit Malaysia to discuss aid

Palestinian chairman Mahmoud Abbas will visit Malaysia to discuss assistance for his people, the national news agency reported Sunday. Malaysia last week pledged unspecified financial support for the Palestinians and called on Western countries to reconsider their move to cut off aid to the Hamas-led government. Abbas' visit to Malaysia, at the invitation of Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, will take place at a date to be decided later, said the Bernama news agency. "Malaysia is very dear to the Palestinians' heart," it quoted Abbas as saying at a joint news conference with Abdullah at the Egyptian resort of Sharm El-Sheikh on Saturday night. The two leaders were there to attend the World Economic Forum.
