Report: China proposes resumed talks on N. Korea

China has proposed resuming six-party talks on North Korea's nuclear program on December 16, but the United States and North Korea have not formally agreed to the date, a news report said Saturday. Yonhap news agency gave no further details, but cited unidentified diplomatic sources saying that the North is likely to accept the date. Japan's Kyodo news agency carried a similar report, saying the Chinese offer received no opposition from the other participants. In Washington, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack also said the US was "still hopeful that we'll be able to have a round that convenes this year, within the next week or so."
