Reports: 6 arrested, 1 injured in clashes in northwest Spain

At least six people have been arrested and one injured as regional groups clashed in northwestern Galicia, Spanish media reports and rally organizers said Sunday. A rally in regional capital Santiago de Compostela was organized by Galicia Bilingue, a group defending the right to chose between the local Galician language and Spanish in education and regional government communications. It was met by demonstrators who support independence for Galicia and rally organizer Gloria Lagos said several hundred riot police had to be deployed to separate opposing demonstrators as tempers flared. Spanish National Radio reported six people were arrested and that one of its broadcast vehicles and several buildings were damaged Sunday by thrown objects.
