Some 1,000 Swiss Muslims protest Muhammad cartoons

About 1,000 Swiss Muslims protested Saturday against the publication of caricatures of the prophet Muhammed with banners and speeches on the main square of the capital. The protesters gathered peacefully and recited parts of the Koran in Arabic, police said. Many police officers monitored the rally but there was no violence. "We want to express that it shouldn't carry on like this," said Nicolas Blancho, one of the organizers, noting that the publication of the cartoons had offended Muslims worldwide.
