Suspected member of Kurdish PKK rebel group arrested in Germany

Authorities have arrested a man suspected of having been a leading member in Germany of the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, prosecutors said Tuesday. The 47-year-old, a Turkish citizen of Kurdish extraction identified only as Huseyin A., was arrested Monday in the northwestern town of Detmold, federal prosecutors said in a statement. The man is also accused of forcing a woman who was expecting a child by another PKK leader in Germany to have an abortion, threatening to kill her if she refused. A judge on Tuesday ordered him kept in custody pending possible charges, the prosecutors' statement said. PKK guerrillas have been fighting for self-rule in southeastern Turkey since 1984.
