A Tunisian court on Saturday forbade the country's leading human rights group from holding a conference because the group is embroiled in a long-running lawsuit.
The Tunisian Human Rights League has been in legal limbo since September 2005, when pro-government members of the group filed suit accusing the director of violating internal rules and abusing his position.
Citing the lawsuit, Tunisian authorities have since blocked the group from holding several key conferences. A verdict in the case initially scheduled for June 2006 has been postponed twice. Court officials have not given a reason.
The European Union has expressed concern that the human rights league faced obstacles in carrying out its work because of the court case.
