Turkish prosecutors interrogate 25 suspected al-Qaida militants

Prosecutors on Monday began interrogating 25 suspected al-Qaida militants, arrested during and after a clash with police that killed five people, including a policeman, last week. Police said the 25 detained were allegedly linked with al-Qaida and suspected of preparing to stage bomb attacks across the country. Some of the suspects could be charged and jailed later Monday. Among the suspects was a Russian citizen of Chechen origin, according to the state-run Anatolia news agency. Police raided houses in southern Gaziantep city on Thursday, triggering a gunbattle that killed one policeman and four gunmen. Seven police officers and a passer-by were also wounded during the clash.
