UNSC fail to agree on statement on Jericho raid

The UN Security Council failed to agree on a statement on this week's Israeli raid on a Palestinian prison, and the Palestinians and British blamed each other for the stalemate. Britain's Deputy UN Ambassador Adam Thomson said council members arrived for Thursday's meeting expecting to confirm their agreement on a presidential statement that had been negotiated over several days but were handed a last minute amendment by Qatar on behalf of the Palestinian Authority. "Unfortunately, it was not possible on the spot to reach agreement," he said. "It may yet be possible to reach agreement on this text, but at the present it is quite clear that Palestinian authorities are not quite ready to do so."
