US general: US will not send troops to Somalia

US General William Ward estimated the US would not send troops to Somalia, following threats from Al Qaida that the organization would fight the US in Somalia in the same manner they did in Iraq, Army Radio reported on Saturday. In December the Ethiopian army defeated a Muslim militia which took Somalia by coup and launched attacks from the Somalia-Ethiopia border. Somalia has since been in a condition of near-anarchy. The UN requested to renew the assistance to Somalia under an international peacekeeping force. Ward told the USO commander in Africa that it was unlikely that American troops would arrive in the Central-African country.
