US objects to Defense Ministry directorial appt.

Senior US officials have opposed the appointment of Yehiel Horev to replace IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi as director-general of the Defense Ministry, Israel Radio reported Thursday. Washington's objections came into response to Horev's alleged role in the sale of weapons to China, and officials have warned that if Horev takes over the post, it could adversely affect relations between the US and Israel. Horev admitted that his appointment to the Defense Ministry had angered certain people in the US, and hoped that the issue would be resolved.
