Ahmadinejad says better relations with US possible under next president

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said better relations with Washington are possible under the next US leader.
Ahmadinejad opened the door for improved ties during a gathering Wednesday in New York with more than 400 university students and professors.
He said that it would be better for world affairs if Tehran and Washington ended their nearly three-decade diplomatic freeze.
Ahmadinejad sidestepped a direct question on his preference for the White House. But he urged the next US president to try to "fix ties with Iran."
Ahmadinejad is in New York for the UN General Assembly. Last year, Ahmadinejad spoke at Columbia University.
