German FM skeptical about meeting between EU, Iran

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said Monday he was "skeptical" of the chances of success of an upcoming meeting between the European Union's foreign policy chief and Iran's top nuclear negotiator.
In light of UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's failure to secure any commitment from Iran's leaders to stop enriching uranium during a trip to Tehran, Steinmeier said the meeting between the EU's Javier Solana and Iran's Ali Larijani this week seemed unlikely to succeed.
"We must remain skeptical that this will work," he said at a conference in Berlin. "If not, the road to the UN Security Council will be unavoidable," Steinmeier said.
