Iran welcomes arrest of Karadzic as 'historic moment'

Foreign Ministry spokesman Hasan Qashqavi says Iran welcomes the arrest of former Bosnian Serb president Radovan Karadzic on genocide charges. The official news agency IRNA is quoting Qashqavi as saying the arrest is a "historic and unforgettable moment" and that his trial may help alleviate the suffering of victims' relatives. Karadzic is expected to be handed over to the U.N. war crimes tribunal next week. Iran supported Bosnian Muslims during the 1992-95 Bosnian war. It is thought to have supplied Bosnian Muslims with weapons, but the government says it only gave them political and logistical support.
