Former National Security Council chairman Uzi Arad on Thursday corrected earlier erroneous reports that he had confirmed Israel's involvement in the assassination of Hezbollah mastermind Imad Mughniyeh.
"Mughniyeh isn't the issue," he told The Jerusalem Post. "Iran is."
"It doesn't matter about one isolated incident. We are working against Iranian efforts to build a nuclear weapon. It's a just struggle, an international struggle," he told the Post.
Expanding on international efforts to sanction Iran, he stressed that the US, "as [US Secretary of State] Hillary [Clinton] said this week," has also said that if Iran continues on its current track, it would consider military action. "The Iranians responded to that," he said. "They said that if we attack, they'll respond."
Arad went on to say that Iran holds Israel responsible for operating against its nuclear program and terror affiliates "regardless of what we say."
"The Iranians say that if we stage a military attack then they will respond," Arad said. "But they're the ones engaging in terrorist activity."
