Haredi protesters demonstrating against the military draft blocked Highway 4 from Bnei Brak on Thursday, Israeli media reported.

The protests, led by hardline political organization Peleg Yerushalmi, were declared illegal by the police, who said they would begin dispersing the crowd shortly, Israeli public broadcaster KAN reported.

In August, Peleg Yerushalmi called on individuals who received IDF draft notices and did not report for enlistment to attend protests, saying that participants will have the opportunity to enter a raffle with a prize of up to NIS 15,000.

On Tuesday, a meeting was held at the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee to discuss updated sections of the controversial haredi conscription bill, with a specific focus on the exemption age within its framework

The meeting concluded three days of heated, back-to-back discussions on the bill, which took place on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.

Reservist representatives and MKs expressed their sense of urgency regarding reaching a law that would enforce haredi conscription to the IDF, as the military continues to suffer from a shortage in human resources amid the ongoing war.

Yeshiva student arrested at Ben-Gurion Airport on way to Uman

Notably, on Wednesday, a 23-year-old yeshiva student was arrested at Ben-Gurion Airport on his way to Uman and transferred to a military prison.

The detainee is a student at the "Chut Shel Chessed" yeshiva, headed by Rabbi Shalom Arush.

Last week, Attorney-General Gali Baharav-Miara instructed that the draft obligation be enforced on young men seeking to travel to Uman, and that they be arrested if necessary.

Throughout July, the IDF sent out 54,000 draft orders to all eligible men in the haredi community, and also updated its enforcement and sanction plan, making it more efficient.
