The Israel Defense Forces said it fired warning rounds overnight after several suspected Palestinians approached the “yellow line” buffer area along northern Gaza, while troops carried out a separate arrest sweep in the West Bank city of Kalkilya.
The military said details of the Gaza incident were under review.
According to initial reports, the suspects moved toward the designated security line, and armored units responded with tank shells and heavy machine-gun fire intended to drive them back. No additional details were immediately released.
Gaza's 'yellow line'
The “yellow line” refers to the repositioned line inside the Gaza Strip to which the IDF withdrew under the current ceasefire-hostage framework, leaving Israeli forces in control of roughly half of the territory as a security belt. Recent coverage by Israeli outlets has described the footprint as about 53% of the Strip.
In a separate overnight operation, IDF troops operated widely in the Kalkilya area to arrest suspects in terror activity and to locate weapons and dual-use materials used to manufacture arms, the military said.
The incidents come amid intermittent friction around the Gaza perimeter since the redeployment, with the IDF reporting recent warning fire in response to approaches toward the security line and tank fire at armed elements moving near Israeli positions.
