Israeli forces responded to arson attempts allegedly conducted by extremist settlers in the West Bank on Tuesday, the IDF said.

According to Palestinian media sources, settlers were seen setting fires in the southern West Bank village of Susya. Unverified videos circulating on social media appear to show masked settlers setting fire to a group of buildings. Other photos and videos show multiple blazes, including on vehicles and residential buildings.

“IDF soldiers, Israel Police forces, and Israel Border Police soldiers were dispatched to the area of Khirbet al-Nawaj‘a following a report received regarding deliberate burnings of Palestinian property in the area,” the IDF stated.

The military further said the fire had been extinguished and that no injuries were reported.

It also distanced the security forces from the alleged attackers, stressing that “the Israeli security forces decisively condemn such incidents and will continue to operate to ensure law enforcement and order in the area.”

Susya reportedly previously targeted by extremists

Other incidents perpetrated by extremist settlers targeting Susya have been reported in the past. In June 2025, a similar arson attack was reported in the village. Over recent years, the area has seen repeated settler attacks, including vandalism, physical assaults, and other incidents.

According to data from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, settlers carried out more than 1,600 attacks in 2025, and human rights NGO B’Tselem documented 10 Palestinian civilians killed as a result.

Although the IDF says it works to prevent such attacks, Palestinians often accuse Israeli forces of passivity or even complicity, arguing that perpetrators rarely face consequences for their actions.
